Poet Terry Wooten Visits BRMS
The sixth grade students at Big Rapids Middle School had the opportunity to write poetry with Michigan poet Terry Wooten, who for 30 years has been conducting poetry workshops and giving poetry performances. Mr. Wooten was invited to the school by sixth grade language arts teacher, Janet Weber. Mrs. Weber's sixth graders listened to Mr. Wooten recite his own poetry and then worked to create some of their own, with lots of tips along the way. The workshop with Mr. Wooten ended with a Poetry Night. Several students recited their own poetry. You can see videos of the recitations on the BRMS Facebook page.

Practice the Power of the Positive
It is anti-bullying month at the Big Rapids Middle School. As part of the month, students have created an interactive bulletin board. The bulletin board, titled "Practice the Power of the Positive"
has 450 tubes with messages inside. Students in need of a little encouragement or positive thinking may pull a message from a tube. They can keep the messages for themselves or give them away to another student. The bulletin board gets refilled each day with new inspiring notes. This activity is one of many activities for the month. This year's theme is, "What's Your Cool?".
