BRMS 6th Grade Band plays for the 5th Graders!

Students from the Big Rapids Middle School 6th Grade Band played a concert for the 5th grade students enrolled at BRMS. The 5th grade students have the opportunity to join the band next year.

The Big Rapids Middle School seventh and eighth grade bands performed at the Michigan Schools Band and Orchestra Association’s District I Festival in late February, and both groups have qualified for State Festival, earning straight Division 1 ratings. The State Festival will be held at Big Rapids High School on
April 21 and 22.

There are approximately 200 students enrolled in the Big Rapids Middle School Band program, grades six through eight. Big Rapids has a long-standing tradition of excellence in the bands, consistently receiving superior ratings at Festivals. In addition to the 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade bands, Big Rapids Middle School also has an 8th grade jazz band that rehearses during the school day during the third trimester of each school year.

The bands are under the direction of Mr. Albie Todd. Mr. Todd is in his seventh year as Director of Bands at Big Rapids Middle School. He attended Michigan State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and Sam Houston State University, earning his Master of Music in Conducting.
